The Youth Committee of the Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China was established on 2 May 2015.

The Youth Committee was set up with the aim of injecting fresh blood into ACPPRC, to encourage ambitious youths who are concerned with the development in China and the promotion of the peaceful reunification of China to join in the cause and play their active part. Also, by gathering together those young people, hailing from mainland China, Hong Kang, Macau and Taiwan, it is in itself a significant step towards harmony and unity. ACPPRC provides them with ample scope to give play to their ingenuity, energy and wisdom, and it is a fine platform for them work for the peaceful development across the Straits and the reunification of China.

Xiangmo Huang identified a large number of young people who are studying in Australia or on the cusp of beginning their careers; They are closely following the reconstruction and development of their country of origin, and have many ideas and ingenious ways to contribute to the prosperity of China and to make the “China Renaissance Dream” a reality.

He said that setting up the Youth Committee is a visionary thing to do as it allows the youths to channel their creative energy and intelligence into a grand cause, allowing them to get involved in politics and the platform can benefit their personal and professional growth in Australia. He summed up in closing that the Youth Committee would harness their youthful energy and bring about fresh ways anways of thinking in how best to achieve the peaceful reunification of China.

Members of the Youth Committee also spoke and provided some insightful views on how the overseas Chinese can keep pace with the development of their resident country, generate goodwill between China and Australia and promote further exchanges and cooperation between the people and students of the two countries.

Later that month, the ACPPRC Youth Committee held discussions with the Australian politicians. The topics of discussion centred on deepening the understanding of the Australian political system on the part of the overseas Chinese youth, encouraging their interest in politics and fostering closer links and exchanges with Australian politicians and their staff.

About 30 people attended the forum, including David Coleman, Member of the Federal Parliament, Mark Coure, Member of the New South Wales, Helen Sham-Ho, ACPPRC Senior Honorary Advisor, Leo Mian Liu, Executive Dean of the Australia-China Relations Institute.

Xiangmo Huang said this forum was held with the aim of bringing the Australian political system and history closer to the young members of ACPPRC, which in turn will fire up their enthusiasm in politics. He also hoped that through the forum, the young membership would acquire a better overview of the Australian politics, improve the knowledge and sharpen the political awareness among the young, who in turn will become promising and effective future leaders.

Xiangmo Huang concluded by adding that this type of forum was extremely fruitful, well-received by the talented young member and would act as a constructive bridge and should be persisted with.

Then, the members of the Youth Committee participating in the forum actively took to the floor to voice their opinions during the ensuing discussions.
