Chairman William Chiu’s Welcoming Address
At the Welcome Dinner by the Australian Chinese Community in honor of H.E. Duan Jie Long, Consul General (Ambassadorial Rank) of PRC in Sydney
17 April 2011 at Marigold Restaurant

Your Excellency Duan Jie Long, Consul General (Ambassadorial rank) of the P.R. China in Sydney,
Respected guests and friends,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening!

Tonight about 500 leaders from NSW Australian Chinese Community representing over 200 community organisations are gathering here to hold this gala welcome dinner in honor of H.E. Duan Jie Long, Consul General (Ambassadorial rank) of the P.R. China in Sydney. Please allow me, on behalf of NSW Australian Chinese Community and Chinese nationals, to extend to H.E. Breitling Avenger Seawolf Replica warmest congratulations and best wishes on his assumption of Consul General (Ambassadorial rank) of PRC in Sydney.

The golden autumn in Sydney has seen the most successful and fruitful visit to Australia by H.E. Jia Qing Lin, President of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. His visit has further strengthened the friendly relationship between the two countries. Along with this favorable development of the relationship between China and Australia, H.E. Duan Jie Long’s assumption of Consul General (Ambassadorial rank) of PRC in Sydney will surely make further progress in the co-operation and exchanges of various fields between China and NSW.

In recent years, the Australian Chinese community, together with other ethnic communities, has been working in unprecedented unity and harmony, becoming one of the most significant and influential communities in Australia, which is fully indicated by the presence of Hon Julia Gillard, Prime Minister; Hon Kevin Rudd, Foreign Minister; Hon NSW Premier and Leader of the Opposition at the Chinese New Year Celebrations organized by the Australian Chinese community in Sydney.

Lately after the state election, NSW has just formed a new government led by Hon Barry O’Farrell.? The new premier has said during his welcome dinner in honor of H.E. Jia Qing Lin, President of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, that his government will bring the NSW economy back to No. 1 position. He has also promised that he will lead an economic delegation to visit China around Sept. or Oct. 2011 to further promote the development of the economic and trade exchanges between China and NSW. The NSW Australian Chinese community will strongly support this action.

2012 will see the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia, a most significant event which provides China and Australia and NSW more favorable opportunity and great challenge in the further development of the friendly relationship between the two countries. We believe that the NSW government and the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney will have a lot to do to meet this challenge. We, the Australian Chinese community, will pledge to continue our bridging role and follow the fine Chinese traditions in promoting the social and economic development of Australian society, ?building a modern and harmonious society and further promoting the peaceful reunification of China and developing the comprehensive co-operation between Australia and China.

I wish you all enjoy a very pleasant evening tonight. Thank you!
