Message from Xiangmo Huang, President of ACJCCCNY

There is a strong sense of anticipation around the Chinese New Year here in Sydney and other parts of Australia as we prepare to usher in 2017 - The Year of the Rooster.

Also known as the spring festival, Chinese New Year, is a very important occasion for the Chinese diaspora in proudly celebrating a rich culture and long history and of equal significance it provides an opportunity for the broader Australian community to come together in friendship and goodwill.

As we share in the happiness and spirit of the occasion, we also rejoice in the inclusiveness and warm multicultural embrace that are hallmarks of this great southern land. It is a time to be united, where the Chinese community and other ethnic groups celebrate living harmoniously together in Australia our home. Chinese New year allows us to promote the many virtues of this nation and also the continued development of a strong and healthy Australia-China relationship.

This is the fifth Chinese new year's eve that we celebrate with the spectacular illumination in red of the iconic Sydney Opera House, a special event that is growing in its popularity. The illumination also represents an invitation to tourists all over the world to visit this great city and state as well as Australia more broadly.

on behalf of the Australian Chinese Joint Committee in Celebration of the Chinese New Year, it gives me great pleasure in extending to you and your family our warmest wishes for a happy and prosperous new year.
