Message from Hung Ly, OAM, JP, President of ACPPRC

Tonight, our colleagues from all over Australia and around the world gather here to witness the Inauguration Ceremony of the 8th Term of Executive Committee of ACPPRC. Firstly, I would like to extend my warmest welcome and sincere greetings to all distinguished guests and colleagues!

The Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China was established in July 2000, during a time where the military conflicts between Chinese Mainland and Taiwan were on the verge of erupting.

If the war had broken out, it would not only have affected Chinese mainland and Taiwan, but Australia would also have been involved in war due to geopolitics. Therefore, what kind of Asia-Pacific region would be brought into the new century became a great concern for Australian Chinese who always love Australia and their hometown. It was in this particular context that ACPPRC was founded.

We are aware that "peace and development" remains the two major themes of today's world, and a peaceful development of the Asia-Pacific region is in the national interest of Australia.

Based on this common idea, we have been working together, hoping to play a non-governmental role to promote "peaceful development and reunification of both sides of Taiwan Strait" and achieve peaceful development in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia. Meanwhile, we are dedicated at promoting a friendly relation between Australia and China and away from wars and tension. This is the original intention of the name and the establishment of ACPPRC.

However, after 19 years of development, the priorities and areas of focus of ACPPRC have already expanded beyond our original intention.

Today, the ACPPRC focuses on six main areas which include:

Actively promoting Australia-China friendship and their extensive exchanges in various fields playing its role as a bridge among civil organizations;

Uniting Australian Chinese, living in harmony with other ethnic groups;

Integrating into and contributing to Australian society;

Promoting outstanding Chinese culture, enhancing the development of multiculturalism in Australia;

Enthusiastically promoting charitable causes that benefit the well-being of Australian and Chinese people;

Extending care and love for the growth and development of Australian Chinese youths.

ACPPRC has been continuously growing and developing over the past 19 years as a nationwide, non-profit, non-governmental, non-religious and non-partisan civil organization. Our members include not only people originally from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, but also Australian Chinese and celebrities originally from Southeast Asian countries and regions such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Singapore and so on. Today, nearly 100 Australian Chinese associations are organizational members of ACPPRC, connecting nearly 40,000 members.

ACPPRC has developed into a consortium of Chinese associations across Australia, as well as an influential, well-known and widely represented Chinese association in Australia.

Over the past 19 years, ACPPRC has made outstanding and significant contributions and include uniting Chinese people, actively integrating into and contributing to the Australian society, and vigorously promoting Australia-China friendship. This has gained the respect and recognition of the Chinese communities and mainstream society.

In the past 19 years, almost all Australian Prime Ministers, NSW Premiers and other politicians have participated in various activities organized by ACPPRC and highly recognised the long-term contributions of ACPPRC to the Australian society.

We would not forget that ACPPRC has organized more than ten consecutive free medical missions to the poor areas of China to help cataract sufferers regain their sight and restore normality to their lives, which is titled “Eyes on China”. In this way, ACPPRC has sent money and spread love in the society,Richard Mille Replica promoting the Australia-China friendship and people-to-people ties from generation to generation.

We would not forget that after the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, ACPPRC actively promoted the cooperation between Australia's PTW Architects and the Chinese partners to co-design the Beijing Olympic Games' iconic venue—the Chinese National Aquatics Centre known as the Water Cube. ACPPRC also took the lead in launching donations among overseas Chinese to build the Water Cube, which helped closely connect Australia and China in the Olympic volunteer service, sports programs, talent management, stadium design and construction during the preparation and hosting process of the Beijing Olympic Games. This has become a good example of the mutual respect and cooperation between the countries, helping Beijing to host an incomparable Olympic Games.

We would not forget that we have initiated and organized nearly 300 associations across Australia in Commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of Chinese Migration to Australia on 20 May 2018 in Sydney Town Hall. Together with the Chinese community and the mainstream society, we have reviewed our shared history and reality that Australian Chinese community and Australia have been inseparable for 200 years, as well as Australian Chinese people’s loyalty to this country and their great contributions to it for two centuries. We have thus helped unite Chinese and other ethnic groups in Australia to build a strong Australian society together.

Dear friends, colleagues, as a Chinese born in Vietnam who migrated from Vietnam to Australia. My personal experience as for the importance of a country's sovereignty and peaceful development touches my soul. I am also deeply grateful to Australia for all it has bestowed to me. This is original intention for me to join ACPPRC and repay the society. I have served as honorary advisor since the third term of executive committee of ACPPRC, and then I have become the executive President of the 7th executive committee. I have a long time special bond with the honourable ACPPRC.

In August last year 2018, I gained majority votes and was elected as the President of the 8th committee of ACPPRC in the annual general meeting. I know that responsibility and honour exist at the same time. The previous Presidents of ACPPRC are outstanding leaders among the Chinese community in Australia. For the past 19 years the development history of ACPPRC has also told us that the great achievements that ACPPRC has achieved are attributed to the shared efforts of all members rather than one leading person.

At this moment, I would like to extend my heartfelt respect and gratefulness to the previous chair people who have made contributions to the development of ACPPRC, to the directors and advisors of the honour group who have firmly supported us with money and efforts, and to the old and new colleagues of the executive committee!

I believe that with the efforts of all the colleagues of the 8th honorary and executive committee of ACPPRC, with the consistent love and support of our friends from all walks of life, the 8th executive committee of ACPPRC will surely obtain newer and greater achievements, and will spare no efforts to continue carrying on our mission.

Thank you all! I wish you all an enjoyable evening!

Hung Ly
President of ACPPRC
