40th Anniversary of the Racial Discrimination Act

On the 1st of November 2015, Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (ACPPRC), together with other ethnic organsiations, hosted a celebration to mark the 40th Anniversary of the implementation of the “Racial Discrimination Act” which promotes racial and ethnic equality in Australia.

The 40th Anniversary of the Racial Discrimination Act is a very important milestone to commemorate, for a very important piece of legislation.

We believe all Australians, regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds, should be able to live in a free society. We also believe that those who are marginalised or vulnerable in our society should have a legal system that protects them from discrimination.

At the commemoration, the following people delivered wonderful speeches.

Mr. Xiangmo Huang, Chairman of ACPPRC.

The Hon. David Coleman MP, representing the Prime Minister of Australia.

The Hon. Philip Ruddock MP, Chairman of the Australia-China Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The Hon. Senator Sam Dastyari, representing the Federal Opposition Leader.

Mr. Mark Coure MP, representing NSW Premier.

The Hon. Ernest Wong MLC, representing Opposition Leader of NSW.

Dr. Stepan Kerkyasharian, president of the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW.

Mr. Nicolas Whitlam, son of former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam.

Mr. Amen Lee, Executive Chairman of Australia China Economics, Trade and Culture Association.

After the commemoration, ACPPRC launched the cooperation with the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) “Welcome Wall” project.

Ms. Nancy Chung, manager of welcome wall from ANMM, presented a piece of Chinese calligraphy to Mr. Huang Xiangmo, Chairman of ACPPRC.
