William Chiu made a welcome speech. Many Official Guests commended and pledged support to ACPPRC’s Eyes on China Projects -- a much needed charitable project which generated enormous goodwill and an ever lasting friendship between Australia and China.

Mr William Chiu's Welcome Address:
2008 is a historically very significant and important year for the Chinese people. Under the leadership of the Chinese Government, snow storm and earthquake disasters were overcome, and a grand and "exceptionally" successful Beijing Olympic Games was presented to the world. In one year, ACPPRC had donated more than 20 million RMB for disaster relief fund, we bought and sent to the earthquake disaster region 2233 tents, and had organised our members to support the Olympic Torch Relay in Australian Capital, Canberra. At the same time, we had organised experts to set up water treatment units for earthquake victims in Sichuan province. After completed more than 1700 cases of free cataract operations during 5 previous projects, this year we are going to a remote district called Bijie in Guizhou Province, and we aim to complete 500 cases of cataract removal surgeries, so that sights will be restored.

On behalf of ACPPRC, the Honorary Senior Chairman Mr.Frank Chou presented a vote of thanks to all.

The Specialists also taught local surgeons their techniques, and ACPPRC donated instruments and medicines for the local hospital, and water purifier for local school. The local people were friendly and very grateful to what we brought to them.
