William Chiu JP

Mr. William Chiu, born in Malaysia and educated in Australia and New Zealand, is president of Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (ACPPRC) and chairman of Oceania Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (OCPPRC).

Mr. William Chiu with two masters degrees in Chemistry and Commerce, is also a successful businessman. He is the managing director of Golden Glory International (Group), under which he also chairs the following companies:
Australia Livestock Genetic Development Co. Ltd
Golden Glory Shanghai Livestock Genetic Development Co. Ltd
Beijing Great Wall (Ba Da Ling) Cable Car Co. Ltd

Mr. Chiu is also a member of NSW Government Asia Business Advisory Council and an associate member of NSW Parliament Asian Pacific Friendship Group, the one and only non-NSW-MP member.

For many years, Mr. Chiu has been working tirelessly to promote the friendly relations and co-operation between Australia and China.  He is also a staunch supporter and promoter for world peace and China’s peaceful reunification.

In 2000, to preserve peace across the Taiwan Straits and promote peaceful reunification of both sides of the Taiwan Straits, he initiated the establishment of ACPPRC.

In 2002, initiated by Mr. Chiu, ACPPRC hosted in Sydney a World Convention of “China Peaceful Reunification and World Peace”.  This convention was patronized by former Australian Prime Ministers Bob Hawke and Malcolm Fraser, with over 700 participants from China mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and from other countries of America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Former US president Bill Clinton was invited to make keynote speech and former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser also delivered a speech at the convention. That convention has a significant international impact.

In 2004, to unite all overseas Chinese in Oceania region for the promotion of peaceful reunification of China, he visited most Asian Pacific countries and initiated the establishment of OCPPRC. A regional congress was organized in Sydney in April, 2004.

ACPPRC with Mr. Chiu as its leader, has been playing a great role in promoting sister or friendship city relationship between Australian and Chinese cities and in medical cooperation between both countries.

In 2003, under the initiation of Mr. Chiu, “Eyes on Tibet” free cataract surgery medical mission was launched in Lhasa, Tibet. Some well-known Australian eye surgeons and medical staff were joined by eye specialists from China mainland and Taiwan successfully attended 160 cases. The oldest patient is 82 and the youngest 9 years old.

Since then, “Eyes on China” has become very popular in China and in great demand. And it has become an ACPPRC annual project and special patent to the world.

This project has won tremendous support from both the Australian and Chinese governments. The Hon. Philip Ruddock, Federal Attorney General, the Hon Gary Hardgrave, Federal Minister for Multicultural Affaires, the Hon Bob Carr, former NSW Premier, the Hon Morris Iemma, NSW premier, the Hon John Watkins, NSW Deputy Premier and Federal and State parliament members and local council members have attended the fundraising dinners for this project. Australian companies and Chinese community leaders and entrepreneurs have offered generous financial donations to this project, all which has made “Eyes on China” project a very successful and popular event in both Australia and China.
